Classic Mancala

Mancala is a fun and ancient two-player game that uses pits and pebbles (or in the game, circles and dots!). The game board looks a bit like a big letter “X” with circles on either side, kind of like an egg carton.  Your goal is to be the player with the most dots at the end.

 

Here’s how it works: at the start, each little circle on your side of the board has the same number of dots inside.  On your turn, you pick up all the dots from one of your circles and scoot them around the board, one by one, dropping a dot in each circle you pass (including your own).

 

The tricky part is what happens when you land your last dot.  If it lands in your big scoring circle (called a Mancala) at the end of your row, you get another turn!  Also, if you land your last dot in an empty circle on your side, and the circle right across from it has dots in it, you get to capture all those dots for your Mancala!  The game ends when all the circles on one side of the board are empty.  Then, whoever has the most dots in their Mancala wins!
